Hydropower utilities around the world are currently dealing with the combined challenges of ageing assets and a decline in technical skills and experience, as the last of those who designed, specified, built and commissioned the assets leave the work force. The unprecedented advances in information technology, computer based simulations, PLC controls, smart protection devices and mobile communications has also changed the landscape of how we design, test, control and maintain our plant, as well as interface with the commercial market.
This year’s theme is “New Ideas for Old People and Older Plant”. Our key assets (people and plant) are getting older. What innovative and new approaches are being implemented to build knowledge within our industry and prolong the life and performance of our generating assets?
Authors are asked to reflect on the conference theme and submit papers that provide practical examples of New Ideas for old People and Older Plant and promote further exploration and discussion among delegates.
